Asia-based blockchain adoption entity TZ APAC will be spearheading the blockchain curriculum at the new Centre for Nurturing Computing Excellence
FREMONT, CA: The Centre for Nurturing Computing Excellence will be established in collaboration with the National University of Singapore School of Computing (NUS Computing), the major Asia-based blockchain adoption body supporting the Tezos ecosystem. The new Centre, led by NUS Computing Associate Professor Tan Sun Teck, will allow students to learn from real-world industry specialists in subjects including blockchain technology, cloud computing, and data analytics.
Singapore is quickly establishing itself as a global leader in blockchain technology, and the blockchain ecosystem in Singapore and others has grown significantly in recent years. To meet the rising demand, top schools like NUS Computing must develop a strong talent pipeline in this fast-growing field, ensuring that Singapore's computing talent is well-equipped to harness the potential of blockchain technology, in conjunction with other complementary technologies, to contribute to the country's digital economy. Assoc Prof Tan is also in charge of training and coaching students competing in prestigious programming competitions such as the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), the National Olympiad in Informatics (NOI), and the International Collegiate Programming Contest. He led the Singapore IOI team to its highest performance in history in 2021, winning three gold medals and a silver medal.
The IOI is a significant competition in which many influential personalities from the industry have competed. Arthur Breitman, the first architect of Tezos, was an IOI contestant who represented France and won a bronze medal. The President of France-IOI Mathias Hiron and Nomadic Labs Senior Software Engineer Mehdi Bouaziz are two other notable people in the Tezos ecosystem that have participated in the IOI. In addition, Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, was a bronze medallist for Canada. TZ APAC will establish a blockchain developer curriculum that will allow students to learn directly from TZ APAC team members through hybrid virtual and in-person seminars, workshops, hackathons, and tutorials centred on use cases within the Tezos ecosystem. The establishment of the Centre for Nurturing Computing Excellence follows previous collaborations with other higher education institutions in the region, including Kyoto University, Nagoya University, and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, with education being a top priority within the Tezos ecosystem.
